We stand up for pregnancy, birth & reproductive rights.

Clients often reach out when they want to understand their rights and better advocate for themselves or people they care for during reproductive care, pregnancy, and birth.

Others have left hospital rooms and doctors’ offices frustrated, confused, and shaken. Often, medical providers have acted without our clients’ consent, withheld care until our clients have agreed to something they don’t want, or have said and done racist, homophobic, sexist, or otherwise biased things that have caused our clients significant harm. Our clients often know something was wrong, but are unsure of how to name it and what to do next.

We provide a safe, affirming space where clients can turn their hurt and uncertainty into action and hold those that violate their rights accountable.

We help people understand their rights in pregnancy, birth, & reproductive care.

We believe that everyone deserves empowering, informed care throughout pregnancy, birth, and reproductive services. We help people, their loved ones, and their care team understand and stand up for their rights.

We advocate for reproductive, pregnancy, & birth justice.

We hold medical providers, doctors’ offices, and hospitals accountable when they violate our clients’ rights to bodily autonomy, discriminate against our clients, or use threats, intimidation, or coercion to force clients into procedures or treatment they don’t want. We use civil rights laws, including California’s Tom Bane Civil Rights Act (the Bane Act) and the Unruh Civil Rights Act to advocate for dignity and respect for all people in reproductive care.

We partner with non-profits, community groups, grassroots organizations, & activists to push for reproductive justice.

We love partnering with community organizations to fight for reproductive justice. We specialize in coordinating legal and organizing strategy, and help organizational, activist, and grassroots clients formulate legal strategies and craft impact litigation to ensure all pregnant and birthing people are safe, treated with dignity, free from discrimination, and are supported in exercising their right to bodily autonomy.

We’ve represented and partnered with International Cesarean Awareness Network and the Birth Justice Bar Association.

Our Reproductive Rights Services

We’re gentle with our clients, but tough on those who violate their rights.

  • We educate people about their rights in medical settings, so that they can have empowered, informed pregnancies and births.

We help pregnant people, their partners, and birth workers understand and proactively advocate for patients’ rights.

When clients are harmed by providers, we listen, help people understand their rights and options, give honest, direct, and kind advice, and help clients formulate a plan, so they can heal, and focus on themselves and their families.

  • When our clients’ rights are violated, we help clients file complaints with government and non-governmental organizations that oversee hospitals, doctors, and nurses.

  • In select cases, we tenaciously advocate for positive change and fair compensation in lawsuits against medical providers and hospitals.

We charge a flat fee for consultations, and hourly rates for advising. For negotiations, administrative complaints, and lawsuits, we charge hourly rates or, in select cases, offer contingency fee agreements, where we don’t charge any fee, unless our clients are compensated for the harm they’ve experienced.

We also support pregnant people, caregivers, and new parents at work. Learn more on our Employment Discrimination and Advising Page.

  • “Thank you, always and forever, for everything you have done for our family. No one has been as instrumental in my healing as you. You really taught me that through self-advocacy, we can come back from the worst. I will take that with me the rest of my life.”

  • “Elise handled all of our interactions with respect and care...she not only took the most effective approach from a legal standpoint, but was also sure to take my input into account so that I left feeling resolved in the process and outcome. I was very impressed with Elise’s skill set…I highly recommend Elise to anyone considering her services.”
